The psalm shifts to communal memory. *Ephratah* (אֶפְרָתָה) is the ancient clan-name of the Bethlehem-Judah region, here likely pointing toward Kiriath-jearim territory, where the ark rested for twenty years after its return from the Philistines (1 Sam. 7:1–2). *Jaar* (יָעַר, 'forest') is a poetic abbreviation for Kiriath-jearim ('city of forests'). Notably, Hebrew uses feminine suffixes throughout (*shema'anuha*, *metza'anuha*)—'we heard her, we found her'—the ark is personified as the beloved 'she' being sought and longed for. Both translations preserve the place names; this footnote supplies the narrative referent.
