Footnotes
*Yachal* ('to hope, wait with expectation') is not passive endurance but oriented, active longing — the same verb Job employs in his defiant declarations of trust from the ash heap (Job 13:15; 14:14). The shift from singular interiority ('I have… my nephesh') to communal summons ('O Yisra'el') is the psalm's quiet pastoral move: the hard-won stillness of oneself becomes an invitation for an entire people. *Me'attah ve'ad olam* ('from this moment unto the age/everlasting/forevermore') anchors the hope in the present instant while projecting it toward eschatological fulfilment — hope that begins now and never terminates. FOG renders this with temporal immediacy ('this moment… unto the age'); FOG Message leans into the liturgical cadence of 'forevermore,' echoing the doxological close familiar from temple worship.
