Footnotes
The prayer heytivah YHWH ('do good, O YHWH') is a concise petition that moves naturally from the preceding theological declaration into direct address, a characteristic shift in the Songs of Ascents. Yesharim be-libotam ('upright in their hearts') defines moral integrity as an inward orientation, not merely outward compliance—an anticipation of the 'circumcised heart' theology of Deut. 30:6 and Jer. 31:33. F.O.G. keeps the phrasing spare and parallel ('those who are good… upright in their hearts'); F.O.G.M. adds 'before You' to draw out the relational and covenantal dimension of uprightness as lived in the presence of Yahweh.
