Footnotes
Tov is the great Hebrew word for goodness, welfare, beauty, and flourishing, the same word used seven times across Genesis 1 as God declared creation "good." To seek tov for Jerusalem is to align oneself with Yahweh's own creational and redemptive intention for the city. Avakshah is a cohortative—a first-person vow of active pursuit—not passive wishing but energetic seeking. Significantly, the poem closes by grounding the city's tov not in nationalism or sentiment but in the presence and honor of Yahweh's House. F.O.G. renders tov with simple directness as "your good"; F.O.G.M. unpacks its fullness as "blessing and welfare."
