Footnotes
HaMetzar — 'the narrow place' — shares its three-letter root with Mitzrayim (Egypt), deliberately evoking Exodus bondage. The psalmist's distress is framed in the language of Egyptian constriction; YHWH's answer brings merchav, the wide, open, breathable expanse — the liberation of the desert and the promised land. F.O.G. preserves the spatial literalism to let the Exodus echo ring clearly; F.O.G.M. renders the experience emotionally ('anguish'/'set me free'/'spacious place') to convey the felt arc of deliverance.
