The Hebrew *avodah* (עֲבֹדַת) — here rendered 'cultivation' — is the same root as both 'work' and 'worship' (*avad*). Man's tending of the soil is cast in priestly-vocational language, directly echoing Adam's calling in the Garden where *avad* describes his role (Gen. 2:15). The farmer's labour is thus a form of sacred service. FOG renders 'cultivation' to honour this covenantal resonance; FOG Message uses 'tend' — natural and accessible, yet still gesturing toward the garden-priestly vocation.
