The lion imagery (אַרְיֵה, aryeh) was the stock predator of the ancient Near East, culturally freighted with power, cunning, and terror. Its use here frames the wicked oppressor not as a human lawbreaker but as a creature operating entirely outside the covenant order — pure predatory appetite. The net (רֶשֶׁת, reshet) then complicates this: he is not merely a beast but a calculating trapper who has planned in advance. The psalmist holds both images in tension — animal ferocity and human cunning. FOG doubles down on the crouching posture (repeated in the Hebrew for emphasis); FOG Message condenses to heighten the sudden violence of the strike.
