מִשְׁפָּט (mishpat) is deliberately ambiguous: it can mean a legal proceeding, the act of rendering judgment, or the great eschatological Day of Judgment. The F.O.G renders "the judgment" to hold this tension open; the F.O.G Message uses "the day of reckoning" to draw out its eschatological freight and its resonance with later prophetic and New Testament judgment imagery. In either reading, "stand" (יָקוּמוּ, yaqumu) carries courtroom force — to stand and have one's case hold up before the court — making the wicked's failure both legal and ultimate.
