*Chasar-lev* ('lacking heart') is a recurring Proverbs idiom for the person who has abandoned wisdom and self-governance (cf. 7:7; 9:4; 10:13). The *lev* in Hebrew thought is the seat of reasoning, will, and moral discernment — not merely emotion. To be *chasar-lev* is to be functionally without judgment. The verb *meshaḥet* (destroys/ruins) applied to *nafsho* (his own soul/life) makes the destruction entirely self-inflicted: no external force ruins him; he ruins himself. FOG preserves *lev* and *nephesh* to honour both dimensions; FOG Message renders 'lost his mind' and 'destroying his own soul' for emotional immediacy.
