These words appear to quote the sluggard's own drowsy self-justifications — a wry device repeated verbatim at Proverbs 24:33–34, confirming it was a known satirical saying. The threefold *meʿat* ('a little') mimics the sluggard's own logic: each small indulgence seems harmless in isolation, yet they compound into ruin. The quoted speech is implied by context, not marked in the Hebrew, but the repetition in ch. 24 and the sudden shift from direct address to reported speech signal the device. Both translations present it as internal self-speech to preserve the satirical edge.
