Nabal (Hebrew: nabal) denotes not merely a foolish person but a morally corrupt one — contemptuous of wisdom, covenant, and others (cf. Ps. 14:1; 1 Sam. 25, where Nabal literally embodies his name). The four scenarios of verses 22–23 describe social inversions — not merely awkward situations but cosmically destabilising reversals of created order, the kind that make the earth itself retch. FOG preserves nabal as a transliteration to honour its moral and covenantal weight; FOG Message renders it 'fool' for clarity.
