*Mepanek* ('coddles/pampers') appears only here in the Hebrew Bible, meaning to indulge with excessive tenderness. *Manon* is a hapax legomenon — a word appearing only once in the entire Hebrew scriptures — making its meaning genuinely irresolvable with certainty. Ancient versions including the LXX and the Peshitta struggled to render it. Proposed meanings include 'heir,' 'ingrate,' 'grief,' and 'insolence.' Most modern scholars favour a sense of presumption or grievous disappointment. FOG renders 'unruly'; FOG Message offers 'insolent and ungrateful' — both are interpretive choices made necessary by an irreducibly obscure word.
