*Tov ayin* (literally 'good eye') is a Hebrew idiom for generosity, in direct contrast to *ra' ayin* ('evil eye') which means miserliness (cf. Prov. 23:6; 28:22). This is the very idiom Yeshua deploys in the Sermon on the Mount (Matt. 6:22-23): 'If your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light' — almost certainly a reference to generosity, not merely vision.
