Hebrew uses two distinct terms: *ishah zarah* ('strange/foreign woman') and *nokriyah* ('outsider, foreigner'). Scholarly debate continues over whether these designate a literal foreign woman (perhaps an adulteress or cult-associated figure of non-Israelite origin), Lady Folly as the literary foil to Lady Wisdom (Prov. 8–9), or both simultaneously. The covenant language of v. 17 — 'forgets the covenant of her God' — suggests the woman has defected from Israelite covenant life, making her 'strangeness' moral and covenantal as much as ethnic. FOG preserves 'foreign' and 'outsider' to keep the social-boundary resonance; FOG Message uses 'forbidden' and 'stranger' to foreground the moral danger.
