This verse is deliberately ironic — the father's apparent command to "cease listening" is a *reductio ad absurdum*: the *lamed* before לִשְׁגּוֹת (*lishgoth*, "to wander/stray") is a *lamed* of result: "resulting in wandering from words of knowledge." The teacher uses irony to make the student feel the stakes viscerally. לִשְׁגּוֹת shares a root with *shegagah*, inadvertent sin (Lev. 4:2), suggesting that departure from wisdom leads to the territory of unintentional transgression. FOG preserves the ironic imperative; FOG Message makes the conditional consequence rhetorically explicit.
