נֶפֶשׁ (*nephesh*) carries its full semantic range here: throat, appetite, desire, life-force — not the Platonic "soul." The verse pairs intellectual lack with hasty action as two expressions of the same impulsive defect. חֹוטֵא (*chote'*) — literally "misses the mark," the standard word for sin but here pointing to practical error rather than moral transgression per se. FOG preserves *nephesh* and introduces "zeal" to capture the appetite-driven dimension; FOG Message draws out the soul's vulnerability to misdirected energy.
