*'Evil* denotes a specific type of fool — quick to anger and morally resistant to instruction — distinct from the *kesil* (v. 23) who is intellectually dull and self-satisfied. The phrase 'in his own eyes' (*be'einav*) is a recurring Proverbs marker of self-referential judgment, the ultimate epistemological failure: the fool's only standard of measure is himself.
