Footnotes
לָבִיא (laviy) and אֲרִי (ari) — Two distinct Hebrew lion terms in deliberate sequence. Laviy typically denotes the lioness or the lion at the height of its power (Gen. 49:9; Deut. 33:20; Isa. 30:6), carrying overtones of fierce, relentless, almost maternal ferocity; ari is the more common word for the adult male lion in his kingly dominance. The pairing is not redundant — it layers both the unstoppable drive of the hunting lioness and the sovereign power of the ruling lion onto Israel's identity. Crucially, this oracle directly echoes Ya'akov's blessing of Yehudah: 'Yehudah crouches like a lion, like a laviy' (Gen. 49:9), threading a Messianic cord from the patriarchal blessings through a compelled pagan seer, toward the Lion of the tribe of Yehudah (Rev. 5:5). FOG retains laviy and ari; FOG Message renders 'lioness' and 'lion' to make the gendered pairing vivid in English.
