*Hamoshelim* (הַמֹּשְׁלִים) — 'those who compose *mashal*.' A *mashal* is simultaneously a proverb, taunt-song, parable, and satirical poem — the full range of wisdom-speech that makes meaning through comparison and wordplay. These were likely Amorite victory poems celebrating Sichon's conquest of Moav, now ironically repurposed to mark Sichon's own defeat. The song that celebrated the conqueror is sung over the conquered conqueror. FOG renders 'ballad-singers' to capture the bardic, satirical character; FOG Message uses 'poets' for accessibility.
