The verb *gava* ('expiring') is distinct from the more common *mut* ('to die'). *Gava* evokes the slow, helpless fading of an exhausted creature — the guttering of a flame, the last breath of a dying animal — conveying not sudden death but inexorable extinction. The triple cry — *gavanu, avadnu, kulanu avadnu* ('we are expiring, we are lost, all of us are lost') — builds into a crescendo of communal despair. The bitter irony is acute: the rebellion that caused the deaths has produced not repentance but escalating panic. FOG uses 'expiring' to honour *gava*'s specific register of fading out; FOG Message opts for 'dying' for emotional immediacy while the triple repetition carries the spiralling dread.
