*Tenu'ati* (תְּנוּאָתִי) is a rare and debated word, occurring only twice in the Hebrew Bible (cf. Job 33:10). Its root may relate to *nu'* — to hinder, oppose, or frustrate — suggesting YHWH's active withdrawal or obstruction. It is not merely disappointment but relational rupture: YHWH setting Himself *against* those He had been *for*. FOG renders "My displeasure" to hold the ambiguity; FOG Message renders "have Me withdraw from you" to capture the relational dimension of the break. The forty-day-for-forty-year symmetry frames the punishment as exquisitely proportional — each day of cowardly refusal costs a year of wandering.
