*Tzara'at* (צָרַעַת) is traditionally rendered 'leprosy' but is distinct from Hansen's disease; it is a ritual skin condition that renders a person *tamei* (ritually impure) and requires exclusion from the community (Lev. 13–14). 'White as snow' (*kashalegh*) indicates a severe and unmistakable form. That Miryam alone is struck—not Aharon—has prompted extensive rabbinic discussion: was she the primary instigator? Does gender play a role in the asymmetry of judgment? The text does not say, leaving the question open and uncomfortable. FOG retains *tzara'at* untranslated to preserve the specific ritual-legal weight; FOG Message renders it 'skin disease' to avoid the misleading and stigmatising 'leprosy.'
