The governors before me had crushed the people with heavy demands, taking forty shekels of silver from them on top of food and wine. Even their servants had tyrannised the people. But I did not act that way—because I feared God.
The governors before me had burdened the people heavily, taking from them forty shekels of silver in addition to food and wine. Even their servants had lorded it over the people. But I did not act this way, because of the fear of Elohim.
But the former governors that had been before me were chargeable unto the people, and had taken of them bread and wine, beside forty shekels of silver; yea, even their servants bare rule over the people: but so did not I, because of the fear of God.
