The *Sha'ar HaAshpot* — the Dung Gate, the Refuse Gate — was Jerusalem's exit point for waste, ash, and refuse. That a named district ruler takes sole responsibility for this most inglorious section of the wall embodies the chapter's governing ethic: no assignment is beneath the dignity of a faithful servant. The FOG preserves the Hebrew name, whose meaning lands with more directness than the sanitised English; the FOG Message uses 'Dung Gate' to ensure the unglamorous reality is not softened away.
