I said to the king, 'Long live the king! How could I not look troubled, when the city where my fathers are buried lies in ruins and her gates are burned to ash?'
I said to the king, 'May the king live for ever! How should my face not be downcast, when the city—the place of my fathers' burial-ground—lies in ruins and her gates have been devoured by fire?'
And said unto the king, Let the king live for ever: why should not my countenance be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers' sepulchres, lieth waste, and the gates thereof are consumed with fire?
and replied to the king, “May the king live forever! Why should I not be sad when the city where my fathers are buried lies in ruins, and its gates have been destroyed by fire?”
