The Hebrew תּוֹדֹת (*todot*, plural of *todah*) rendered 'thanksgiving-processions' are not merely musical choirs but liturgical acts embodying communal gratitude — walking, singing, processional declarations of praise. The same root (todah) describes Mattaniah's role (v. 8) and the thanksgivings of v. 27, threading the chapter together. Nechemyah/Nehemiah personally marshals the ceremony — his civil governorship merging with liturgical directorship, recalling David bringing the Ark to Jerusalem (2 Sam. 6:12–19).
