שֵׁבֶט (shevet) carries a layered range: shepherd's rod, ruling scepter, and tribal identifier all at once. In this pastoral prayer it reads as "staff/crook," but its royal overtones lend the Shepherd-King motif extra authority. בָּדָד (badad, "alone/apart") also carries deliberate covenantal resonance — Israel dwelling set-apart as a distinct people, echoing Balaam's oracle in Numbers 23:9.
