Footnotes
ψυχῇ translates the Hebrew נֶפֶשׁ (nephesh), which in its most physical sense means 'throat' or 'breath' and by extension denotes the whole living person—not the Platonic immortal soul distinct from the body but the unified, breathing being or essence of a person. F.O.G. keeps the original 'nephesh' of Deut. 6:5; F.O.G.M. uses 'being' to honor this holistic sense. Additionally, Matthew's Shema includes διανοίᾳ (mind/understanding), not present in Deut. 6:5's heart-being-strength triad, likely reflecting a Greek-Jewish interpretive expansion that makes the intellectual dimension of love explicit.
