Psalm 118:22-23 — the same psalm the crowds quoted at the triumphal entry (v. 9), forming a deliberate Matthean inclusion. κεφαλὴν γωνίας (kephalēn gōnias) = "head of the corner" — debated between cornerstone (the foundation stone set at a building's corner, emphasising foundational importance) and capstone/keystone (the crowning stone that locks an arch or gates, emphasising elevation and completion). FOG renders "capstone" to capture the sense of the rejected one being lifted to the highest place — a powerful image of resurrection and exaltation. FOG Message uses "cornerstone" following the traditional rendering, drawing out the foundational significance of Messiah (cf. Ephesians 2:20; 1 Peter 2:6-7). Both readings are linguistically valid and theologically rich.
