Son of David' (huios Dauid) is a Messianic title rooted in the Davidic covenant (2 Sam. 7; Ps. 89). In Matthew's Gospel it falls most often on the lips of marginalised petitioners — those with no social standing to press a claim. eleēson ('have mercy') echoes the Hebrew hen/hesed cluster — not a plea for pity alone, but a cry for covenant-love to act. The blind men's confession is more theologically perceptive than that of many who had full sight.
