porneia is a broad Greek term for sexual immorality/unfaithfulness, semantically distinct from moicheia ("adultery"), which describes the remarriage itself. Matthew's "exception clause" — absent in Mark and Luke — has generated enormous theological debate. F.O.G renders porneia as "sexual immorality" (broader semantic range); F.O.G Message renders it as "marital unfaithfulness" (contextually focused on the marriage covenant). Both renderings are linguistically defensible.
