Skandalon (σκάνδαλον): Derived from the trigger-stick of an animal trap or snare, skandalon was used for anything that causes a person to fall morally or spiritually. "Stumbling block" captures the passive obstacle sense. "Snare," which the F.O.G Message introduces, draws out the more active, predatory dimension—these are not merely obstacles one trips over but mechanisms that trap and destroy.
