The passive "was born" (ἐγεννήθη, egennēthē) ruptures the unbroken active chain of "X fathered Y" (ἐγέννησεν, egennēsen) used across all preceding links. Every prior entry is active; this one turns passive and pointedly identifies Yosef as Miryam's husband, not as Yeshua's father. Matthew's grammatical break is his first announcement of the virgin birth before he narrates it. "Ho legomenos Christos" (ὁ λεγόμενος χριστός) — "the one called the Messiah/Anointed One" — uses a present passive participle, acknowledging this as a living title being attributed to Him among His contemporaries.
