This is arguably one of the most radical halakhic statements in the Gospels. The word koinoi ("make common/defile") appears twice — once for what goes in, once for what comes out — creating a deliberate inversion. In Second Temple purity discourse, this cuts directly against the food-law system. F.O.G. preserves the Hebrew term tameh to keep the purity-law register and signal that Yeshua is engaging Torah categories head-on. F.O.G. Message uses "defile" and leans into the moral-theological implication: the heart, not the plate, is the true site of corruption.
