ῥάκους ἀγνάφου — "unshrunk/unfulled cloth" — cloth that had not been washed and pre-shrunk would contract when wet, tearing the old fabric further. The twin parables of garment (v.21) and wineskins (v.22) make one point: what Yeshua/Jesus brings is not a repair to existing religious frameworks but something categorically incompatible with them. The fasting question assumed He was reforming existing practice; He insists the new reality cannot be contained by the old structure.
