Shulchan YHWH (שֻׁלְחַן יְהוָה), "the table of YHWH," is a striking designation for the altar — not merely a place of slaughter but the divine host's table at which the meal is received. This language echoes covenant meal imagery (Psalm 23:5, Ezekiel 44:16) and points forward to the New Covenant table. Mego'al (מְגֹאָל) derives from ga'al — the same root as "kinsman-redeemer" (go'el) — yet here means "defiled/profaned," a bitter irony: what should be redemptive has become repulsive.
