The request explicitly echoes Eliyahu calling down fire on the soldiers of Ahaziah (2 Kings 1:10–12) — the same Eliyahu who had just appeared with Yeshua on the mountain. The irony is sharp: these men who witnessed the glory of the Servant-Messiah now invoke fire-prophet vengeance on Samaritans. Some manuscripts add "as Elijah did," making the allusion explicit, but this phrase appears to be a later scribal clarification absent from the earliest manuscripts.
