The Greek ἀπόστολος (apostolos) means "one sent out," but its Hebraic background is the institution of the שָׁלִיחַ (shaliach) — an authorised agent who legally represents the sender with his full authority. The rabbinic principle was explicit: a man's shaliach is as himself. F.O.G uses the Hebrew plural sh'lichim to anchor this covenantal-agent background; F.O.G Message uses "apostles" as the established theological title in Christian tradition, pointing forward to their foundational role in the new covenant community.
