Several Greek manuscripts preserve the phrase δευτεροπρώτῳ σαββάτῳ — "the second-first Sabbath" — though it is absent from the most reliable manuscripts, likely because early copyists were uncertain of its meaning. Scholars have proposed it refers to the first Sabbath after the second day of Passover, when the Omer count began, making it a calendrically specific day during harvest season. Both versions follow the shorter, better-attested text, setting the scene simply on "a Sabbath" to avoid importing an untranslatable technical term.
