Footnotes
“Ἐκλεκτός” (eklektos) = Chosen One, Elect—a distinct Messianic title from Isaiah 42:1: “my servant… my chosen one in whom my soul delights.” The rulers use it mockingly, but the irony is that He is the Chosen One, and the Chosen One’s mission precisely required not saving Himself. The title also echoes the Transfiguration (Luke 9:35: “my Son, my Chosen One”), creating a sharp narrative inclusio.
