The Greek skandala (singular: skandalon) originally denoted a trap-trigger — the sprung mechanism of a snare. "Stumbling block" in English softens this to passive inconvenience; the word implies an active apparatus of collapse. FOG uses "stumbling-traps" to hold both senses; FOG Message uses "temptations and traps" to draw out the moral and structural dimensions simultaneously.
