διχοτομήσει (dichotomēsei) = "will cut in two/bisect" — a brutal term rooted in ancient Near Eastern covenant enforcement: parties who violated treaties could be literally dismembered (cf. Gen. 15, where YHWH passes between the cut animal halves to formalise the covenant). Whether read literally as severe punishment or idiomatically as removal from the covenant community, the violence of the word is deliberate and should not be softened.
