ἐβαπτίσθη (ebaptisthe) literally means "was immersed/baptised" — the same word used for baptism elsewhere. This refers not to ordinary hand-hygiene but to the Pharisaic practice of netilat yadayim, the ritual washing of hands before meals, which the Pharisees extended beyond the Torah's priestly requirements to apply to all Jews at every meal. Luke's use of the full baptism-word is pointed: Yeshua's deliberate omission is not a lapse in manners but a public refusal of the entire Pharisaic purity-extension system. F.O.G renders it "immersed" to preserve the ritual-immersion resonance; F.O.G Message uses "wash," the conventional English equivalent that makes the scene immediately readable.
