וַיִּשָּׂא אֶת-יָדָו (vayissa et-yadav) — "he lifted his hands" — establishes the iconic Aaronic posture of blessing: hands raised toward the congregation. This is the first recorded act of Aaronic priestly blessing from the altar, setting the pattern for the formal Aaronic Benediction of Numbers 6:24–26. Several manuscripts and the Septuagint read the plural "hands," which became the standard posture in Jewish liturgical practice to this day.
