"Ma'al" (מַעַל) denotes not mere wrongdoing but treacherous breach of covenant fidelity—a betrayal that strikes against YHWH Himself even when the immediate victim is human. Both versions preserve this dual dimension. "Amito" (עֲמִיתוֹ) designates a fellow community member or companion rather than a generic stranger; F.O.G renders it "fellow" to preserve that insider-community resonance, while F.O.G Message uses "neighbor" in its fuller covenantal sense.
