Be'einav amad (בְּעֵינָיו עָמַד) literally reads 'it stood in his eyes' — a Hebrew idiom meaning 'it appears unchanged to him' or 'in his assessment it has remained stable.' Throughout this chapter the kohen's eyes function as the primary diagnostic instrument; his visual judgment is the authoritative verdict. The F.O.G renders this 'in his judgment' to preserve the evaluative weight; the F.O.G Message uses 'in the priest's assessment' to make the subject clear to readers unfamiliar with the idiom. The new growth of black hair is the sign of genuine healing — restored, healthy follicles.
