בִּדְמֵי טָהֳרָה (bidmei tohorah), literally "in the bloods of purification," is a precise priestly designation. The post-partum blood-flow is categorically distinguished from menstrual niddah blood: it is not defiling in the same manner but belongs to the body's process of restoration. The woman is neither sinful nor unclean in a moral sense — she is in an in-between physiological-ritual state, still bleeding but on the far side of the niddah period. The plural דָּמִים (damim, "bloods") may reflect the ongoing nature of the flow.
