Ruach appeinu ("breath of our nostrils") is a royal epithet of extraordinary intimacy — the king is the very breath that keeps the nation alive. Meshiach YHWH ("YHWH's Anointed/Messiah") refers historically to Zedekiah, captured at Jericho by Nebuchadnezzar (2 Kings 25:4–7). Yet the title bears its full covenantal and eschatological freight: this is the language of the Davidic covenant and of messianic hope (Psalm 2; 2 Samuel 7). The capture and humiliation of YHWH's anointed — under whose shadow the people expected to dwell — casts a typological shadow that reverberates through Isaiah 53 and finds its deepest fulfilment in Yeshua/Jesus, the Son of David, who was also caught in the traps of His enemies so that we might dwell in His shadow forever. F.O.G preserves "YHWH's Anointed" for full Hebrew resonance; F.O.G Message uses "Yahweh's Anointed," drawing out the covenantal-kingship dimension.
