Nesher — the great eagle or griffon vulture, the fastest and most dominant bird known to ancient Israel; enemy swiftness like a swooping nesher was itself listed as a covenant curse in Deuteronomy 28:49. Shamayim is rendered "skies" in F.O.G — the visible, physical vault that any ancient person looked up at — rather than "heavens," which carries in English an almost exclusively theological sense the original word does not require here. This verse almost certainly reflects the historical flight of King Zedekiah and his men when Jerusalem's walls were breached (Jeremiah 39:4–5; 2 Kings 25:4–5), hunted through the Jordan Valley and caught on the plains of Jericho.
