If their fathers or brothers come to protest, we'll tell them: Show us this kindness — grant them to us. We didn't seize them as war brides, and you didn't technically hand them over. So the oath stands unbroken, and no guilt falls on you.'
And when their fathers or their brothers come to contend with us, we will say to them: Grant them to us as a favour — for we did not each take his wife in battle, nor did you yourselves give them away; otherwise you would bear the guilt.'
And it shall be, when their fathers or their brethren come unto us to complain, that we will say unto them, Be favourable unto them for our sakes: because we reserved not to each man his wife in the war: for ye did not give unto them at this time, that ye should be guilty.
